URGENT - we need help

Submissions for the Rio Tinto Warkworth Mine Continuation project are due tomorrow Wednesday 6th of August, 2014.

Rio Tinto is proposing to expand the Warkworth open cut coal mine within 2.6 km from the Bulga village. They are prepared to destroy a large portion of the currently protected and irreplaceable Warkworth Sands Woodland (details here and here ).

Bulga Milbrodale Progress Association (BMPA), Hunter Valley Protection Alliance (HVPA) and Lock the Gate Alliance (LTGA) are all preparing large official group submissions but we need to send as many personal submissions as possible to oppose this out-of-control open cut mine expansion. We believe that Rio Tinto is organising their employees for a large support submission drive.

For background information see
BMPA Submission Guide which provides great wealth of background details,
and
LTGA Submission Guide which gives instructions how to paste a generic submission into the government web page .

The simplest submissions can be just a few lines indicating that you oppose both the Warkworth mine and the Mount Thorley mine expansions and why. Making submissions is easy. Just go to two Government webpages using these two links:

http://majorprojects.planning.nsw.gov.au/page/development-categories/mining--petroleum---extractive-industries/mining/?action=view_job&job_id=6464

http://majorprojects.planning.nsw.gov.au/page/development-categories/mining--petroleum---extractive-industries/mining/?action=view_job&job_id=6465

Then go down the page, find the Making a Submission[b] section, fill in the web forms and submit them.
Unfortunately, you will have to do this twice, once for Mt. Thorley and once for Warkworth, because Rio Tinto split the original project, twice defeated in the NSW Courts, into two in order to claim that their new proposal is completely different.

If you have not done so already, you can also go back to the LTGA site, fill in the forms and ENDORSE their submission. This will give it an additional strength.

If you are preparing a more substantial submission and running out of time for the Wednesday deadline, you can submit a "placeholder" submission. Just use the project webpages above, say that you oppose the Warkworth and Mt.Thorley Mines expansions and that you would like to take advantage of the two-week deadline extension.

If you are having problems converting your submission document into .PDF format, you might like to contact Pauline Rayner (rcorino@bigpond.com) who kindly offered to help with the technicalities.

Finally, you may also sign both our petitions that are running at present:
Save the Warkworth Sands Woodland that has currently 185 signatures
and
Tell mining giant Rio Tinto not to extend its polluting open-cut coal mine. This petition has currently 26686 signatures and has gone on the internet worldwide.
