Subject: Fw: Eastern Star Gas Development.

Please put in a submission to the below re Eastern Star Gas Project. If this industry is established in the Pilliga State Forest it will spread far and wide like a virus. Those that thought it may be contained in the Forest are dreaming as exploration has already begun outside the forest and of course the Narrabri to Wellington Pipeline is a critical link. Please either re-submit your previous submissions or put a new one in before 29 July. Please forward to your contact list for those who may be interested in putting in a submission and encourage them to do so.

Chairperson of the Coal Seam Gas Committee

The Hon Tony Burke has advised that the Eastern Star Gas Narrabri coal seam gas proposal projects have been deemed to be a controlled activity under the Environmental Protection and Bio-diversity Act and have been referred to Mr Burke’s Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities for review.

Four proposals by Eastern Star Gas, related to a coal seam gas project near Narrabri, are being assessed under national environment law.

A single environmental impact statement will be used to assess the potential impacts of these four proposals on nationally threatened species and ecological communities, migratory species, wetlands of international importance, and the Commonwealth marine area.

The community is now invited to make submissions to this process.

The Member for New England has said “anyone who has previously corresponded with my office, the Minister or the Department, should now lodge this correspondence as a submission.”

See website

http://www.environment.gov.au/epbc/noti ... rabri.html Comments should note the controlling provisions for assessment and should relate to the guidelines themselves. Opportunities to comment on the impacts of the proposed development will be provided once Eastern Star Gas has prepared a draft environmental impact statement.

Comments on the guidelines should be submitted to the following address, quoting ‘Narrabri gas field development’, and must be received by close of business on 29 July 2011, subject to confirmation:
