Chemicals used in drilling and fracturing gas wells

The following PDF file provides a short summary of chemicals used in gas exploration and mining: Chemicals in Natural Gas Operations. For more detailed information about the toxicology and chemistry of gas drilling and hydraulic fracturing (fracking, stimulation) go to this The Endocrine Disruption Exchange (TEDX) page.

Some of these chemicals are toxic and can cause endocrine disruption in both humans and animals. Disruption of the human hormonal system (for example feminization of males ) is a very serious health problem.

Members of the US Senate are currently preparing S2828: The Endocrine Disruption Prevention Act 2009 which will force all resource companies to disclose the composition and quantities of all industrial chemicals they use during their natural gas drilling projects.

There is not even a hint of a similar legislation in Australia and our coal seam gas industry is allowed "self-regulation" . Are we more immune to toxic chemicals here?
