Hi everyone,

There are so many things happening on the CSG front that it is difficult to keep up with them. Cost blowouts, skills shortages and good old farmer resistance is having impacts on the industry and its hopes of delivering gas overseas to fulfill contracts in 2015. Increased competition from the USA and Qatar - both of whom can produce gas more cheaply that Australia is also having an impact on this once glorified industry. Unfortunately the State Government is like a star-crossed teenager in its adoration of the industry. Recent claims by Santos to pay farmers extra money and regional grants by the State government are attempts to gain a social license to operate. The State Government and Santos are yet to guarantee that they will not destroy our water resources or devalue our properties with excessive infrastructure so the money being offered over the huge area known as the Gunnedah Basin over 20 years is paltry - and some have said insulting! Personally I am not keen on donning a fleuro vest and checking wells for Santos for $30,000 pa. The Aquifer Interference Policy has been slammed by many as does not appear to take in and coal and coal seam gas impacts. http://blogs.abc.net.au/nsw/2012/07/calls-for-more-time-on-aquifer-interference-policy.html

On 20th, 21st and 22nd July, the Sustain Food Show and Trade Fair have offered us space at their annual event. It is to be held near Moore Park adjacent to the Fox Studio complex. We are looking for volunteers to man a table and tell people of this magnificent food producing country. There are to be guest chefs - famous ones including Kylie Kwong who sources her durum wheat for home-made pasta from the Gunnedah region. If you are available please contact me and we can do up a roster. Please forward the attached email to all your friends. Apologies if you receive this email more than once!

All the best - and what a great start for our winter crops!
