Subject: Hartcher Media Release re: Audit of ELs

Hi everyone

Just in case you haven't yet seen it, please find attached a copy of the
media release issued by Minister Hartcher yesterday regarding the
long-awaited findings of the review of exploration licences (NB: coal and
coal seam gas only - the 1100ish minerals ELs were not audited, which we
have voiced our concerns about since delivery of the audit commitment was
announced in July 2011).

Fiona has provided comment on behalf of NSW Farmers in response to a number
of media inquiries already, and we will also be issuing a media release.

I just wanted to ensure you had a copy, as despite the glowing stats
reported in the release, some of the findings are pretty damning in my view.

Also, if you have any content/links/photos/videos consistent with our
Protect our Land and Water messaging that you would like referenced on the
Protect our Land and Water website
(http://www.nswfarmers.org.au/ourlandourwater/) or Facebook page
(http://www.facebook.com/ProtectOurLandAndWater), please email it through.
We can then highlight new content via our Protect our Land and Water twitter
account (@ourlandourwater).

Happy Easter to you all.

NSW DPI coal and gas "Exploration licence audit" information:

Our Minister is very happy how well the paper shuffling between the government bureaucrats and exploration companies works. However, this report completely misses the main object of the environmental regulations. Local communities have no say into what is going to happen in their backyards and the resource companies are still deeply "committed" to self regulation. Nothing has changed since the fall of the Labour!
